Sherman police chief honored for donating 10 gallons of blood

SHERMAN & DENISON, TEXAS -- Some trash talking went down at the Texoma Regional Blood Center this morning, kicking off Sherman and Denison's Battle of the Badges blood drive.

The two rivaling cities' police and fire departments are rolling up their sleeves and giving blood in an attempt to donate the most pints of blood.

Sherman and Denison residents can give blood to help their city win.

Today, Sherman residents can give blood at the Sherman municipal building or the Sherman police department now til 6 tonight.

Denison residents can give blood tomorrow at the Palazzo Event Center or the Denison police department.

"We're going to try not to beat up on them too hard because we want them to come back next year," Sherman Police Chief Tom Watt said.

"Well we'll just see, I know we're a smaller department, so they've got us as far as the numbers go, but I think more of our people are going to show up and donate," Denison Police Chief Jay Burch said.

Watt was also awarded today for donating a total of 10 gallons of blood during his time as police chief. Deedee Morehead with Texoma Regional Blood Center says he has been very supportive of their center and their efforts for years.
