Suspected drunk driver wanted for second degree murder

ADA, OK - An Ada man wanted for murder is on the run. Troopers said he was behind the wheel this weekend when he crashed, killing a passenger. OHP said he then left the hospital without notifying law enforcement.

Oklahoma law enforcement is on the hunt for 31-year-old Fernando Rojas. Rojas was allegedly driving drunk Sunday on U.S. 377 just south of Ada when he crashed his car killing his friend Marciano Lopez-Perez.

Troopers said at the scene, Rojas tried to present investigators with a fake Texas drivers license.

Captain Ronnie Hampton said Rojas and two other passengers were transported to Valley View Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

"He, with the assistance of his family, fled the Valley View Hospital," Hampton said.

Reports state Rojas' blood sample came back 3 times over the legal alcohol limit. Hampton believes that may have been his motivation to flee.

The Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office issued a second degree murder warrant for Rojas Thursday.

Sheriff John Christian said Rojas' family lives in Ada. So far, they have not cooperated with law enforcement.

Authorities said Rojas may try to escape the country. The U.S. Marshal Service and the U.S. Border Patrol have been notified.

If you have any information on Rojas' whereabouts contact the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office at 580-332-4169.
