BONHAM, TX - Testimony began Tuesday in a Fannin County capital murder trial. Thomas Taunton is accused of killing three family members and dumping their bodies in a Grayson County field in January of 2012.

Day two of trial started with opening arguments Tuesday morning. Prosecutors say Taunton shot and killed his mother, Sue Harpst, her husband, a double amputee Harold Harpst, and Taunton's younger sister, Regina Taunton.

Taunton's defense team says 73-year-old Harold Taunton killed his wife, Sue, and Regina Taunton, and Thomas Taunton then shot him in self defense.

The state's third witness told the court Taunton called and confessed to killing Harold and his mother, Sue. The witness says he recorded the conversation because he knew he had to tell authorities. The jury listened to that recording Tuesday morning.

We'll bring you more details on the trial as it continues.
