AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas transportation officials have begun a study into whether high-speed rail from Oklahoma City to San Antonio could relieve traffic congestion on Interstate 35.
The two-year study will explore the best options for passenger rail development to serve Oklahoma City, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio. It'll also explore possible options for financing such a project, including public-private partnerships.
The $14 million study is partially funded through a $5.6 million grant from the Federal Railroad Administration's High Speed and Intercity Passenger Rail program. The Texas Department of Transportation is providing a 20 percent match.
