Texoma officials serve with Meals on Wheels

FANNIN AND GRAYSON COUNTIES, TX -- Officials from all over Fannin, Grayson, and Cooke counties gave new meaning to serving their communities Wednesday.

"It is just incredible for me on a personal basis to go out and talk to some of these folks, hear their stories, and to know that you can affect their lives," said Bonham Mayor, Roy Floyd.

Government officials took time away from their busy schedules Wednesday, handing out a hot lunch to those in need with some loyal Meals on Wheels drivers.

"You do get to meet a lot of these folks and they're so grateful and you don't realize how grateful they are for these meals," said Fannin County Judge, Spanky Carter.

Bonham Mayor, Roy Floyd, and Fannin County Judge, Spanky Carter, joined 500 other volunteers across Texoma Wednesday, helping deliver meals to the over 1,600 people in need across Grayson, Fannin and Cooke counties.

"It's a big reward. For me -- just to get to talk to these folks and see how much they appreciate it," said Carter.

"It's to give some credit to the people who do it every day. It's amazing how many people that do this on a daily basis," said Carter.

And the people they helped were just as excited to see them as they were to help.

"Well I love seeing em! Glad to meet em," said participant, Evelyn Burtram.

Sherman mayor, Cary Wacker, says after her first time handing out meals, she will definitely do it again.

"I'm always glad to meet people - especially some of our older folks in town who've been part of the sherman community for a long time. It's very meaningful to get to see them," said Wacker.

Wacker joined volunteers across Grayson County. Which is something local seniors say they appreciate.

"It means a great deal to me. I just think it's wonderful. I really do," said Owen Perry.
