GUNTER, TX-Police in Gunter said they caught two men redhanded as they were trying to steal a four-wheeler. They believe this wasn't the only vehicle the men took.
Gunter police chief Bryce Kennedy said an off-duty police officer found two men cutting through a fence along FM 121, east of Block road, Wednesday afternoon trying to get a four-wheeler into a truck. The officer also found another four-wheeler in their possession, which was reported missing the night before.
Gunter police arrested Jarrad Hawkins and David Phares, both were charged with "theft of property over $1,500 under $20,000." Hawkins was held at Grayson County Jail on $6,500 bond, while Phares bonded out Thursday afternoon.
Chief Kennedy said several four-wheelers and trailers have been stolen in Gunter in the past few months. He said thieves find them easy to take and later sell. So he advises owners to watch their belongings

"Lock-em up using a chain and a metal lock. Remove the key, remove the key is paramount. If you can keep it in a shed, keep it in a shed. If not, keep it locked and secured and let your neighbors know when it will or will not be there," he said.

Kennedy said if you bought a four-wheeler and thought the deal was too good to be true, you can take the VIN number and have law enforcement check to see if it's been stolen.
Both four-wheelers were returned to their owners.
