ADA, OK -- The City of Ada began construction on the Townsend Street project this week.
For the next two weeks, the northbound lane of Townsend street between 12th and 13th streets will be closed while Public Works digs up the old asphalt and creates a new and safer road for drivers.
After the northbound lane is completed, they will close down the southbound lane and begin re-constructing that road as well.
Ada Public Works Director, Carl Allen, said there was a lot of improvements they need to do, but his crew is working fast to make the street better for drivers.
"It's one of the worst streets downtown as far as deterioration and shape," Allen said. "It's downtown and connected to so many projects as you can see with the court house and Main Street and that area, so this is one of the priorities that we picked," said Allen.
Public Works will also continue to work down between 13th and 14th streets. Allen said his crew should be finished in about a month if weather permits.
