Trendy Tuesday: Flight Through History

SHERMAN, TX-- A 5th and 6th grade class from Sivills Bend School enjoyed the real life history lesson Tuesday, on a field trip to Perrin Air Force Base Museum. With thousands of different historic items to see, the class was overwhelmed.

"Each thing has a meaning, each thing tells apart of our history," veteran, Robert Sylvester, explained.

Located at the retired Perrin Air force base, the museum brings a collection of Air Force memorabilia. The tour guides are retired armed forces, who all share memories of the base when it was active from 1941 to 1971.

This museum is unique, because of the hands on learning, visitors can experience.

"They pretty much have the freedom as you've probably seen in here. We try to guide them through here, they have their questions, but we try to guide them through here," Sylvester said.

One of the most popular things that kids like to do here, is put this Air Force jacket and fighter pilot helmet and hang out at the T-37 training jet.

The museum offers families a historical-get-away. The price of admission is donations only. The veterans want to share their history with everyone, so history is passed down from generation to generation.

"The main thing is that they learn how our country is saved from being taken over by outside countries. They learn how we fought against that and how we kept America free."
