LAKE TEXOMA -- Thousands of people are expected to head out to camp at Lake Texoma this holiday weekend and it may be your last chance to do it at some Army Corps campgrounds.

The Army Corps usually closes some campsites around Lake Texoma for the winter to save money while impacting the fewest number of campers, but this year, there's a change.

"We decrease our operational footprint around the lake and that includes our campground closures and seasonal closures and so nothing unusual and something we've always done," said B.J. Parkey, Army Corps Assistant Lake Manager. "Just this year we're gonna add two campgrounds to our seasonal closures."

Parkey says the Texas Damsite campgrounds and the Buncombe Creek campgrounds will be locked up, but visitors will still be able to walk through and fish on site.

It's a decision that's not sitting well with some campers.

"I believe they could keep it full every winter," said Doyle Haugland.

Parkey says there will be sites nearby for winter campers.

"Specifically speaking for Texas Damsite, two of those locations can be East Burns Run which is right across the dam or Eisenhower State Park. Speaking for Buncombe Creek, individuals can go right down the road to Juniper West Campground."

Parkey says the two sites will lock up on October 1st and open back up on March 31, 2015.
