UPDATE: Sherman human remains identified

SHERMAN, TEXAS -- Sherman police say the human remains found in the wooded area behind Midway Mall and Sears belong to a 57 year-old male.

Police are currently notifying the man's family and have not released his name yet.

Metal scrapers found the remains and a nearby campsite Saturday evening. Police have been investigating since that time and say there are no signs of foul play at the scene.

"I think any wooded area like that, there's no telling. It's pretty secluded, it's way off the roadway; even if somebody was camping back there, unless they had a fire built or something, you probably wouldn't even notice that they were there," Sgt. D.M. Hampton with Sherman police said.

We'll continue to bring you more details as they become available.
