Voter turnout fair in Carter Co. for Okla. Primary

ARDMORE, OK--Polls are open until 7 p.m. tonight for Oklahoma voters to cast their ballots in this year's primary election.

Voting took place all over the sooner state but one race in particular is drawing a lot of Carter County voters to the polls, the race for U.S. House of Representatives district four.

" For Republican for district 4 which Tom Cole holds right now, he has a republican running against him, Gary D. Caissie" said Helen McReynolds.

"We did get a call from Tom Cole and were here voting " said Kathy slaughter.

The democrats fighting to win the district 4 congressional seat include, Bert Smith, and Donna Marie Bebo, the only female candidate in the race for district 4.

"I don't think we have enough women politicians except for one" said Glorianne Chatman.

The winners of each party's primary will face off in the November general election.

Election officials said voter turnout was not high today but steady in most areas. They expect a greater turnout in November.

"Someone had been to precinct 19 and said they were pretty busy so were hoping it's a good turnout but not having anything local will hurt us today because some won't get out just for this" said McReynolds.

"Grandfather told me from the time I was very young that if you don't vote you can't complain and I want to be able to speak my voice" said T.J. Riley.

Today was a closed primary where voters could only vote for the party they are registered with but officials said the November elections will be open, for those elections they remind everyone to bring an ID.
