AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Democrats and Wendy Davis are marking the anniversary of her star-making filibuster that delayed passage of new abortion restrictions in Texas.

Davis on Wednesday night will mark one year since she spoke on the floor of the Texas Senate for nearly 13 hours to block Republicans from passing a ban on abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The filibuster made the Fort Worth senator a national Democratic figure and propelled her current campaign for governor.

Davis is commemorating the anniversary with her running mate, lieutenant governor hopeful Leticia Van de Putte, with a celebration in Austin.

The event is expected to draw some of the thousands of supporters who swarmed the Capitol last year in a loud and occasionally raucous protest. The Republican-controlled Legislature later passed the abortion bill.
