Wife of pilot killed in North Texas plane crash

DALLAS (AP) - Authorities say a woman has died after a small plane being flown by her husband crashed in North Texas as it tried to make an emergency landing due to mechanical problems.

The couple's child was also in the Beechcraft single-engine plane when it crashed late Saturday night while on its way to Hicks Airfield, just north of downtown Fort Worth.

Denton Fire Department spokesman Kenneth Hedges tells The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/1lZOtxp ) the husband and child were taken to Denton Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Officials say the wife was killed instantly.

Lonny Haschel, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, says the family was traveling from Arkansas to Hicks Airfield.
