Broken glass littered downtown Wilson Saturday morning. Police said three business's windows were busted overnight.

Greg Jolliff does distribution and warehouse work out of 5 downtown buildings and woke up to the news.

"I found out from business owners that came to work this morning and found it this way," said Jolliff.

Police estimate the crime happened between 12:30 and 1:30 Saturday morning.

Captain Richard Parsley with the Wilson Police Department said they got the call around 1:45 a.m.

"That's whenever we responded to the scene and then we had heavy patrol out after that," said Parsley.

He said that between 11 and 16 windows were shattered, and that the perpetrator could be charged with the felony of destruction of property. The damage is estimated at more than $5,000.

But the loss to business owners like Jolliff goes beyond dollars and cents.

"It makes a lot of business owners want to just board their windows up and it makes downtown not very attractive," said Jolliff.

Four of the five buildings Jolliff owns were affected, and for now he's going to board up the broken windows.

He's hoping someone with information will come forward.

"I'm offering a thousand dollar reward--or the business community is--to find who did this so we can put a stop to it," Jolliff said.
