SHERMAN TX-- It seems like almost every movie coming out these days is hyped as being the cutting edge of 3-d entertainment, but no matter what new Hollywood magic makes its way to the big screen, nothing looks more like the real thing, than the real thing.

The stage is set, the actors are in makeup, the lights go down, and dinner is served.

"We do this benefit every year in dinner theatre format, it’s kind of rare they used to have this in Dallas, but they don't anymore," said Director Ron Cassady.

The dinner theater benefits the Sherman Community Players.
It's become a tradition in Sherman and this year's presentation promises to be memorable.

"The performance is a new comedy called a bench in the sun," said Cassady.

A Bench in the Sun, was written by Ron Clark, and tells the story of a few cantankerous seniors, living in a retirement community.
Carolyn Montgomery is a veteran performer who has been in the spotlight in Sherman for 24 years, but she says she still gets a little nervous before the curtain rises.

"Oh yeah, if I am not nervous, it means I am not going to give a good performance," said Montgomery.

Burl Proctor is also a seasoned actor, but he says while he doesn't get nervous, he does follow a few rules on stage.

"I try never to look at the audience, never look at the audience, if something catches my eye, I look the other way so I don't get distracted," said Proctor.

While the actors are busy on stage, the Sherman Community Players Board of Directors is busy looking after the audience.

"They wait the tables and clean up all of the mess so it’s a great thing for us, it really works well," said Cassady.

The benefit helps the players raise money, which in turn helps keep costs and ticket prices down.

"So that no matter how rich or poor you are you can see a play here, we try to make it accessible to the community," said Cassady.
