Oklahoma driver Tamra Patton says just a couple days after getting her home air-conditioning fixed the heat struck again, but this time it was her car.

"They say the hotter it is the worse it is on the air conditioners, and that's just whenever the compressors go out on them," Patton said.

Several auto shops around the area say they've seen a lot more heat related issues under the hood. Auto service manager Steve Phelps says the scorching temperatures bring on a list of problems.

"Well most of the things you see around this time of year though are A.C.s and batteries, and coolant flushes that need to be done and stuff like that," Phelps said.

However, Phelps says this summer has been keeping them a little busier than usual.

"This summer's a little worse than normal because we've had so much heat and drought, and not enough keeping things cooled down," Phelps said.

Phelps says it can be pretty tough for the mechanics too with it being up to 500 degrees under the hood of a car, and though they are working hard more employees are being hired to keep up with all the business.

Despite the economic gain the heat could be creating, those like Patton who have faced high temperatures with no air conditioning say it's a very unpleasant experience, and advise other drivers to make sure they check their cars before they run into trouble.
