JOHNSTON COUNTY, Okla. – After residents watched the smoke billow for days on the southern side of Johnston County, it appears those wildfires may finally be contained.

Emergency management said Tuesday they finally were able to get the fire down into a creek bed, which helped them get a handle on the situation.

Monday night’s evacuations were voluntary, and everyone is still in their homes Tuesday.

More than 100 firefighters, the Forestry Service, a military helicopter, and even Chesapeake Energy helped fight the massive wildfire.

They are still watching hot spots, but as long as the winds and the humidity cooperate, firefighters expect no further problems.

Firefighters still want to warn area residents to exercise caution.

No one was hurt, and no structures have been damaged in the blaze that charred remote, rural acreage in Johnston County.
