Norman police recover hand grenades

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - The Norman police bomb squad has safely retrieved two hand grenades a landlord found while cleaning a rent house.

The landlord put the grenades in the back of his pickup truck Sunday and drove them to the police station.

Officer David Freudiger says carrying the devices in the back of a truck isn't the smartest thing to do.

The grenades were not detonated but were taken to the police shooting range where they'll be held until military officials from Fort Sill get them.

Freudiger says the grenades were military-issue training grenades that could have been bought at a military surplus store or gun show and were modified into functioning grenades.

Officers searched the rent house and interviewed the previous tenant but say they don't believe he was involved.
