Restaurant popular among OU football fans moves

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Just in time for the start of another University of Oklahoma football season, a restaurant popular among fans of the Sooners is scheduled to complete its move to a new location.

The owners of O'Connell's Irish Pub and Grille say it will open in the area known as Campus Corner on Saturday, when OU hosts Chattanooga in the season opener.

The renovation of the restaurant's new space took 15 months.

The original O'Connell's has been located at its present site at the corner of Jenkins Avenue and Lindsey Street, immediately southeast of The Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, since 1968.

The original restaurant will remain open at least through the end of this year, and possibly through 2009.

The relocation to the new location came after the University of Oklahoma Foundation paid $4.5 million in September 2006 for the plot of land on which the original O'Connell's and several other businesses sit.

OU officials have not yet determined what to do with the land.
