MURRAY COUNTY, Okla. -- Authorities released the names of the suspects believed to be responsible for shooting a man in Murray County last week, where investigators say they carjacked a Gainesville man, shot him in the neck, and left him for dead. Authorities believe the people responsible may be in Carter County.

Fifty-year-old Keith Grimes of Gainesville, Texas, was shot in the neck with a rifle at a scenic turnout off Interstate 35 in Murray County last Wednesday. He was robbed, and his truck was stolen.

Investigators say his assailants did not count on Mr. Grimes surviving that shooting. Now police have a suspect, and they say he could be closer than first thought.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says 48-year old Steven Scott Redmond is one of the people responsible for the attack on grimes. They say Redmond has an extensive criminal record that spans 30 years, with everything from murder and robbery to cruelty to animals. Redmond has numerous convictions in Texas.

Investigators examined the truck discovered Wednesday in the McAlester road area off Interstate 35 in Love County believed to be the suspects’ abandoned vehicle. They said Friday it is definitely the suspect’s vehicle.

Redmond is not the only person wanted in this case. A white woman in her late twenties believed to be his companion is also being sought. She is known to go by either Mary Smith or Mary Harris, and has a large tattoo of a panther on her lower right leg.

"We’re under the assumption that we think that they at least are still in the Ardmore area, south of Ardmore. These two people should be considered armed and dangerous," OSBI agent Denise Warren says.

Redmond is also known to use the alias of “Jessie Harris.” The OSBI says it would appear the motive for the attack on Mr. Grimes was robbery.

Grimes is recovering in an Oklahoma City hospital.
