DUNCAN, OK -- Three teenagers accused of senselessly gunning an ECU baseball player at random on Friday had their initial appearance in Stephens County court Tuesday.
15-year-old James Edwards Junior and 16-year-old Chancey Luna were charged with first degree murder.
Prosecutors say anyone over 15 years old is automatically tried as an adult for a first degree murder charge.
17-year-old Michael Jones was charged as being an accessory and using a vehicle in discharge of a weapon.
All three are being charged as adults.
They're accused in the killing of 23-year old Australia native Christopher Lane on Friday. Lane was on a jog while visiting his girlfriend in Duncan. Authorities say one suspect admitted to shooting Lane "for the fun of it."
District Attorney Jason Hicks is shocked at the crime.
"This is not supposed to happen in this community. This is something that you see in larger communities. This is something you hear about in other communities, you don't see or hear about something like that happening in our community," Hicks said.
Jones is charged as a youthful offender, but his case will still go to adult court.
No bond was set for the younger boys. Bond was set at $1 million for Jones.
