Man angered over traffic wait assaults paramedic

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma City man is in jail after authorities say he attacked a paramedic because he was angry he had to wait in traffic at an accident scene.

Police say 32-year-old Richard Hawkins was arrested Thursday on complaints of assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery on a city official and drug possession.

Paramedic Jason Duncan suffered a swollen cheek, fat lip and hurt wrist in the attack.

Police say the road in northeast Oklahoma City had been closed about an hour because of the wreck when Hawkins got out of his car to confront paramedics.

Duncan, another paramedic and a police officer then took the man to the ground.
