Teen dies in accident on rural Bryan County road

CALERA, Okla. (AP) - A 19-year-old Wright City man has died in a one-vehicle accident on a rural Bryan County road.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Rufus Jerome Hardage Jr. was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his sister, 21-year-old Latoria Marie Hardage of Durant. The accident occurred about 3:15 p.m. Monday on State Highway 70E about 12 miles east of Calera.

Troopers say the vehicle was southbound when Latoria Hardage failed to negotiate a curve and continued straight onto a county road.

They say she ran off the road, overcorrected, went back on the roadway, overcorrected again and ran off the road again, striking a fence and a ditch and causing the vehicle to overturn one-half time.

Rufus Hardage Jr. died at the scene. Latoria Hardage was taken by helicopter to a Dallas hospital in stable condition.
