PAULS VALLEY, Okla. (AP) - A federal parolee convicted of killing his new bride in front of horrified bystanders in a small Oklahoma town will receive the death penalty.
A Garvin County jury needed about an hour yesterday to determine the sentence for Franklin Cecil Green, who was found guilty last week of murdering 60-year-old Gloria Hunter on April 10, 2007, in Wynnewood.
The death sentence is in addition to a life prison sentence for kidnapping and a 10-year sentence for possession of a firearm that were handed down last Thursday.
Hunter and Green married March 27, 2007, less than four months after Green was paroled from federal prison, where he had spent 26 years for kidnapping and stolen-car convictions.
Investigators say Green, who was 61 at the time of the shooting, was concerned that Hunter would turn him into his federal probation officer because she had called police and said Green was threatening her.
