Tulsa proposes nearly $1B in projects

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Tulsa has submitted a list of projects totaling nearly $1 billion for consideration in President-elect Barack Obama's economic-stimulus package.

The city's revised project list was formally submitted Friday to the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

It contains 34 projects totaling nearly $945 million.

Major items include $200 million to improve city streets, $61 million to extend the Gilcrease Expressway, $80 million to build a Gilcrease West Arkansas River bridge, and $30 million to expand and renovate the OSU Medical Center.

Mayor Kathy Taylor says that because the idea behind the stimulus package is to boost the economy, she expects the money to start flowing by spring.
