McAlester teen dies in accident on US 270

STUART, Okla. (AP) - An 18-year-old McAlester man has died after his vehicle hit a load that had fallen off of tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 270 in Hughes County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Ryan McAfee died in the accident that happened about 9:45 a.m. about three miles west of Stuart.

Troopers say the eastbound tractor-trailer driven by 41-year-old Trevor Patterson of Meeker lost its load and McAfee's westbound vehicle struck the load and went airborne, coming to rest on the driver's side and pinning McAfee. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a McAlester hospital.

A third vehicle, driven by 44-year-old Lisa Buckner of Calvin, also hit the dropped load. She was taken to a McAlester hospital in stable condition with multiple injuries. Patterson was not hurt.
