OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Former state Rep. Kevin Calvey is the first
candidate to officially announce for the 5th Congressional District post Mary Fallin is leaving to run for governor.
The 42-year-old Calvey says his conservative message will resonate with voters in the district.
He says politicians in Washington are moving the country in a dangerous direction with excessive spending and bailouts.
A Republican, Calvey was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Iraq with the Army National Guard during the 2007 troop surge.
Fallin disclosed last week that she would seek the GOP nomination for governor in 2010.
Others considering the congressional race include Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett and state Rep. Mike Thompson of Oklahoma City, both Republicans.
