OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma House Speaker Chris Benge has authorized 120 government studies to be conducted during the summer and fall prior to the next legislative session.
The Tulsa Republican made the announcement Friday. Benge says the studies cover a breadth of issues that include government modernization, health care, public safety, education and economic
Other studies include ways to reduce the number of "shake 'n bake" meth labs in Oklahoma and reducing cell phone use and texting while driving.
Benge says the studies give lawmakers an opportunity to delve deeper into an issue and give thoughtful study to a topic before writing and working to pass law. House members made 167 interim study requests.
Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee approved 34 interim studies earlier this week.
