OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The state medical examiner says an autopsy confirms a teenager who was shot while trying to rob a pharmacy died of wounds to the body - not to the head.
Dr. Collie Trant says 16-year-old Antwun Parker was knocked out by the shot to the head and was killed by five other shots to the chest and abdomen.
Pharmacist Jerome Jay Ersland is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting. Prosecutors say Ersland was justified in firing the shot that hit Parker in the head but went too far by fetching a second weapon and shooting the teen five more times as he lay unconscious on the floor.
Ersland has said he acted in self-defense because he thought the teenager was getting up.
