Dispute leads to shooting death in Cherokee Co.

FORT GIBSON, Okla. (AP) - A Cherokee County man was shot and killed after a dispute with a neighbor, who authorities say then turned the gun on himself.

Cherokee County officials say 29-year-old Shannon Ray Ragsdale was shot several times in the head and upper torso after he answered his door Tuesday night at his home near Fort Gibson.

Authorities say the suspect in the case - 47-year-old Kelly Compart - later shot himself as deputies and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers arrived at the scene.

Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault says Compart was flown to a hospital in critical condition.
