MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) - Federal prosecutors in Oklahoma say a 19-year-old Durant woman has pleaded guilty to passing counterfeit money in Oklahoma, Texas and Washington state.
U.S. Attorney Sheldon Sperling says Charlene Nichole Berthelson pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in federal court in Muskogee.
Sperling says Berthelson was part of a ring that bleached $5 bills to make them into counterfeit $100 bills. Sperling says the phony money was passed at businesses in the three states from January 2008 until March 2008.
He says sentencing will be scheduled following completion of a presentence report and the Berthelson likely faces 12 to 18 months in prison.
