5th District - Lankford

EDMOND, Okla. (AP) - Edmond Republican James Lankford is the latest candidate to announce plans to seek the open 5th District congressional seat.

Lankford said Tuesday he plans to file paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to seek the Republican nomination.

Lankford, 41, has been director of the Falls Creek Oklahoma Youth Camp since 1996. He will be leaving his position later this month to campaign full-time. Lankford also has been an adjunct professor at Oklahoma Baptist University.

Lankford is the fifth Republican to campaign for the seat being vacated by Republican Rep. Mary Fallin, who is running for governor. Other andidates are former state Rep. Kevin Calvey, state Rep. Mike Thompson, Ricky Flanigan Jr. and Dr. Johnny Roy.

No Democrats have announced plans to seek the post.
