Former Warner clerk charged with embezzlement

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) - A former city clerk and treasurer from the town of Warner has been charged with embezzling funds.

Muskogee County prosecutors on Tuesday charged 51-year-old Carla Lanette Reed with embezzlement after a state audit questioned more than $14,000 in unauthorized payroll payments.

Those payments included reimbursement for cell phone charges, mileage and undocumented expenses.

Reed's attorney Bob Locke declined to comment on the charge.

Reed was booked into the Muskogee County jail and released on $10,000 bond.

If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison, a $5,000 fine and payment of restitution.
