WEATHERFORD, Okla. (AP) - A former state representative and Southwestern Oklahoma State University graduate has been named as the school's president.
Randy Beutler of Elk City will assume his new duties at Southwestern on Feb. 1. He has served since 2006 as the Weatherford university's vice president for public policy and leadership development.
Regents of the Regional University System of Oklahoma announced Beutler's appointment on Friday. The 1983 Southwestern alumnus will replace John Hays, who is retiring.
Beutler served four terms in the state House of Representatives, eventually becoming the Majority Whip, before leaving in 2000. He later worked as Gov. Brad Henry's legislative liaison to the House and as Henry's director of legislative relations.
