MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (AP) - The Norman Transcript, the Stillwater NewsPress and the Journal Record of Oklahoma City won top honors among daily newspapers in the 2009 Oklahoma Press Association Better Newspaper Contest.
Winners of the Sequoyah Award - given to the newspaper with the best showing across 12 categories in the annual contest - were announced Friday night at the press association's mid-winter convention.
The Transcript won among newspapers with daily circulation of more than 8,200; Stillwater won among newspapers with circulation between 4,000 and 8,199, and the Journal Record won among newspapers with daily circulations of less than 4,000.
Entries in the contest, which includes daily and weekly newspapers competing in separate divisions, were judged by members of the Colorado Press Association.
