Backers of Okla. Indian museum to announce plans

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Backers of the planned American Indian Cultural Center and Museum are scheduled to announce their plans for the future of the half-finished building.

The project has stalled after the Oklahoma Legislature declined to issue an additional $40 million in bond funding for the museum. Some legislators were critical of the museum's total costs, which are estimated at $171 million.

The state has already spent $63.4 million in bonds for the incomplete museum in Oklahoma City.

A press conference is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Oklahoma City. J. Blake Wade, executive director of the Native American Cultural and Educational Authority, will discuss the future of the museum.
