SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) - A judge in eastern Oklahoma has postponed scheduled a jury trial for a Sallisaw man charged in a 1997 killing.

Sequoyah County District Judge Jeff Payton delayed setting the trial for 39-year-old Rex Richard Robbins because Robbins' attorney wasn't in court Thursday. The Southwest Times Record reports that Payton will consider the matter in June.

Robbins is charged in the beating death of 28-year-old Mitchell Dayne Nixon. Robbins is being held without bond in the Sequoyah County jail and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Authorities found Nixon's body on Oct. 9, 1997, near Sallisaw. Agents discovered a bloody rock next to Nixon's head.

Robbins wasn't arrested until last year after Sequoyah County authorities took a fresh look at the case.
