OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma says it will be able to provide nearly 4.7 million meals to hungry Oklahomans thanks to a gift from Devon Energy Corporation.
Devon donated a record-breaking $936,600 to the food bank, 72 percent of the amount raised so far in the food bank's month-long food and fund drive.
More than 550 Devon Energy employees helped the food bank last month by sorting and filling pantry boxes with canned food donations. Devon employees sorted 319,975 pounds of food into boxes - enough to fill nine tractor-trailer rigs with food to help Oklahomans impacted by the deadly May 19 and 20 tornadoes.
Oklahoma City-based Devon and its employees have donated nearly 45,000 pounds of food and raised more than $5.4 million during the last nine years.
