ARDMORE, Okla. (AP) - Dollar General has donated $40,000 to the Jefferson Elementary School in Ardmore.

The donation was made Wednesday when company representatives carried a yellow and black box containing a $40,000 check to a classroom of curious students.

The donation is part of the variety store's Reading Revolution program. The program provides schools with additional resources to purchase books, computers and other educational supplies to enhance their reading and literacy programs.

Jefferson Elementary School was chosen due to its close proximity to Dollar General's distribution center in Ardmore. Riley Seals, Dollar General's Ardmore distribution center director, says the company hopes the donation will help equip the school with the tools and resources it needs to improve the learning experience for students.

Dollar General says it plans to make donations to more schools.
