CHANDLER, Okla. (AP) - A Lincoln County jail inmate who reportedly stole a county truck and escaped has been recaptured in the Texas Panhandle.

Lincoln County Sheriff Charlie Dougherty says 37-year-old Michael Rhodes was arrested about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Vega, Texas, about 35 miles west of Amarillo.

Dougherty says Rhodes was picking up trash in Meeker Wednesday morning when a county employee supervising took him to lunch and left the keys in the county-owned pickup truck he was driving. The sheriff says Rhodes was allowed to step outside the restaurant for a cigarette when he stole the truck and drove away.

Rhodes was in jail on a possession of stolen property charge.
