OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A former state senator charged with felony bribery has asked an Oklahoma County judge to dismiss the charge.
Former state Sen. Debbe Leftwich of Oklahoma City made the request Monday in pre-trial motions that were filed with District Judge Cindy Truong. Among other things, the motions allege further proceedings would be unconstitutional.
Leftwich and former state Rep. Randy Terrill of Oklahoma City are scheduled to go to trial on Oct. 21 on bribery charges. Terrill is accused of offering a bribe and Leftwich is charged with soliciting or accepting a bribe. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors say Terrill and Leftwich schemed to set Leftwich up in an $80,000-a-year job at the state Medical Examiner's Office so a Republican colleague of Terrill's could run for her open seat in 2010.
