OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Convicted arsonists would be prohibited from working as firefighters under a bill signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin.
The bill was one of ten measures Fallin signed into law on Monday.
House author Rep. James Lockhart of Heavener says the bill was requested by firefighters in his district after a convicted arsonist was hired as a volunteer firefighter in Le Flore County. Lockhart says he was surprised there was no such prohibition already in statute.
The bill passed the House and Senate without a dissenting vote.
Other bills signed by Fallin on Monday dealt with trapping wildlife, competitive bidding procedures, eminent domain proceedings and property tax assessments.
