Fire at Okla. City motel: Evacuation, no injuries

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Authorities say a three-alarm fire heavily damaged several rooms of a Super 8 motel in Oklahoma City, but there were no serious injuries and guests were safely evacuated.

Deputy Fire Chief Marc Woodard told The Associated Press more than 50 firefighters battled the three-alarm blaze from the first call before 3 a.m. Thursday. He says the motel on an Interstate 35 service road was about 50 percent occupied but people got out without injury from the several dozen rooms.

Woodard says the fire appeared suspicious but he declined to elaborate, saying he didn't want to compromise the work of investigators.

Woodard says the fire gutted two upstairs rooms and a storage area on the south side of the two-story motel, while two ground-level rooms just below had major smoke damage.
