LAWTON, Okla. (AP) - A former high school teacher in Lawton who brought a handgun to school in his briefcase has pleaded guilty to a felony charge.

William S. Trice II pleaded guilty this week to one count of possessing a firearm on school property. The Lawton Constitution reports that Trice was fined $1,000 and ordered to complete a mental health treatment program.

Before his arrest, Trice taught economics at Eisenhower High School in Lawton.

An affidavit says Trice came to school and opened his briefcase to reveal a pistol. The affidavit says Trice immediately took the loaded gun to his truck in the school's parking lot.

Authorities say Trice, who has a concealed carry permit, forgot that the weapon was in his briefcase. No students saw the weapon.
