SOPER, Okla. (AP) - A funeral has been scheduled for a Choctaw County sheriff's deputy who was killed in a collision on U.S. Highway 70 in southeastern Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 47-year-old deputy Brian Hayden was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in Hugo following the Thursday night crash near Soper. The patrol says Choctaw Nation tribal officer Josiah Moore was hospitalized following the collision but is expected to recover.
Troopers say both were westbound with lights and sirens activated to assist another deputy when their vehicles collided.
Nicoma Park police officials say Hayden served as a patrol and reserve officer in the suburban Oklahoma City department from 1993 to the end of 2011.
Officials say his funeral is scheduled for Thursday in Valliant.
Hayden was married and had four children.
