TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Protecting children from abuse will be the dominant theme at the National Indian Child Welfare Association's annual conference in Tulsa.

The organization will convene Sunday through Wednesday at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa.

The group represents hundreds of tribal nations in the continental United States and Alaska.

Executive Director Terry Cross says a pending U.S. Supreme Court case that is drawing attention to the Indian Child Welfare Act adds to the importance of this year's gathering.

The conference has become the largest national gathering dedicated to Native American children's issues.
