Judge overturns Oklahoma abortion drug law

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma law that prohibits the use of certain abortion-inducing drugs has been ruled unconstitutional by a district court judge.

The ruling by Judge Donald Worthington says the law violates a woman's fundamental rights to privacy and bodily integrity.

The law was approved in 2011 and required doctors to follow the strict guidelines authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It prohibited off-label uses of the drugs - such as changing a recommended dosage or prescribing it for different symptoms than the drug was initially approved for.

It was challenged by the Oklahoma Coalition for Reproductive Justice and Nova Health Systems.

You missed the key word 'Democratically'. If a Republically elected congress (a majority republican membership) passes legislation, it is the duty of the judiciary to overturn.

Wow, you just made up a new word. I guess you are referring to the time that the Supreme Court overturned campaign finance laws in their Citizens United v. FEC ruling. You should purchase a 6th grade social studies book & learn what the purpose of the judicial branch is.

I guess you should purchase a dictionary and look up the term 'humorless' and paste your picture next to the definition.

I thought Obama said if the duly elected congress passed a law the courts should not over turn it! Pretty sure he said something like that and that is unheard of to do so. I found the quote. "Ultimately I am confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," Mr. Obama said in the Rose Garden appearance.

Not to get too technical, but I believe Congress and the Oklahoma legislature are two differnt animals. And a District Court Judge and the US Supreme Court are two different animals. This is no done deal.
