POTEAU, Okla. (AP) - Authorities in Leflore County have arrested a suspect in the 2009 death of a bar owner in Poteau.
Sheriff's officials arrested Larry 60-year-old Ray Nichols on Thursday on a first-degree murder charge for the slaying of Joe Neff. Nichols is Neff's former brother-in-law.
Investigators found a bloody crime scene inside Neff's Long Branch Saloon on May 14, 2009. Fayetteville, Ark., television station KHOG reports Neff's girlfriend found Neff's signature cowboy hat and his SUV was in the parking lot, but Neff was missing.
Days later, fisherman found Neff's body floating in a strip pit pond in Pocola. Investigators say Neff's body was weighted down with a cement block and his hands and feet were bound with zip ties. He died from a gunshot wound to the neck.
