LAWTON, Okla. (AP) - Two Lawton police officers are on paid leave after a man they were handcuffing and arresting stopped breathing and died.
The names of the officers and of the man involved in the Tuesday night incident were not released.
Police say one officer responding to a disturbance at a home in southeast Lawton found family members holding the man on the floor and saying he had been using drugs. Police say the officer controlled the suspect and waited for a second officer to arrive.
When the second officer arrived the two officers rolled the man onto his stomach to handcuff him - then noticed he was not breathing.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
