Man charged in Okla. woman's burning death

FORT SMITH, AK. (AP) - A man accused of killing a woman by pouring gasoline on her and lighting it on fire is charged with first-degree murder in LeFlore County, Okla.

A judge ordered 29-year-old Donnie Lee Harris Junior of Talihina, Oklahoma held without bond after a Tuesday hearing.

The district attorney's office says 25-year-old Kristi Ferguson died in Oklahoma City on Friday. She was flown there for treatment after being burned February 19th, the same day Harris was arrested.

The Southwest Times Record reports that charges against Harris were upgraded this week following Ferguson's death.

An affidavit says Ferguson told witnesses that Harris doused her with gas and lit it.

A first-degree murder conviction carries a penalty of execution or life in prison without parole.
